Recon partners with UK’s ZerdaLab to revolutionize development of next generation AI powered drill bits for geothermal, oil and gas, and mining exploration 🇨🇦️️🌍⛽

Improving drilling performance influences geothermal, oil and gas and mining sectors’ economics, viability, scale, and delivery. Currently, a sea change in drilling performance is driven by a new innovation of high frequency data collection and analysis. Downhole logging presents a host of challenges which stem from the simple fact that all the action is happening deep below the surface in a brutal and harsh environment. Acquiring accurate and useful data out of such depths is critical but challenging.

The causes of most drilling inefficiencies are rooted in drilling dysfunctions and the extent of drilling dysfunction downhole is unknown. The roots of this deficiency include drilling teams not collecting enough dynamic data at the source downhole, even if the data were to be collected, there is only a small pool of experts to properly analyze and provide meaningful recommendations, and even when these high-value experts are engaged, it takes weeks of engineering analysis to get answers.

These drilling inefficiencies of lack of real time data and its analysis can lead to significant increase in cost and decrease in pace of drilling operations. These extra costs and delays can add up to a million dollars per drilling site

ZerdaLab is a specialty design firm that designs and creates drill bits for drilling scenarios that are both novel and challenging. “We have worked with Recon team to integrate their system into our drill bits. The data we collect is used to assess drilling dynamics and vibrations, validate drill bits design and selection to ensure continuous improvement of the product, and by extension, drilling performance and economics of wells” says Vasiliy Zbaraskiy, Chief Technology Officer of ZerdaLab.

“Partnering with Recon provides us with bit design flexibility and the data quality we need to accelerate our product development while improving our customers well delivery targets”, said Vasiliy.

“Recon is very happy to be able to partner with ZerdaLab. Their belief in our technology and willingness to leverage our technologies and expertise on what are arguably some of the most demanding projects in resource exploration has dramatically advanced our technology while simultaneously providing enormous benefits to their clients.” Says Nasim Morawej, co-founder of Recon.
